Stand Up To Cancer Telethon To Be Massive International Television Event

This Friday’s “ Stand Up To Cancer ” telethon is gearing up to be one of the largest live charity events in recent memory. Not only will it be seen in 195 countries, but it will also hit almost all the major networks commercial-free: ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, Bio, Current TV, Discovery Health, E!, G4, HBO, HBO Latino, MLB Network, mun2, Showtime, Smithsonian Channel, The Style Network, TV One, and VH1. Katie Couric, Diane Sawyer , and Brian Williams are set to tackle the hosting duties, while celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, George Clooney, Will Smith, Olivia Munn, Zachary Levi, Reese Witherspoon, Fran Drescher, Christina Applegate, Lance Armstrong, Renée Zellweger, and more will make appearances. Musical guests scheduled to perform include Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, Natasha Bedingfield, Martina McBride, Aaron Neville, Dave Stewart, Neil Diamond, The Edge, Delta Goodrem, Herbie Hancock, Kris Kristofferson, Lady Antebellum, Leona Lewis, Orianthi , and Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson of Heart. “Plain and simple, cancer takes too much from us,” said Laura Ziskin, SU2C co-founder and executive producer of the September 10th broadcast. “Loved ones lost to it, pain and suffering endured by those in treatment, even the recent report that cancer has the most devastating economic impact of any cause of death…this disease exacts a very high price. Sunny D Goes Zero-Waste: Still Unhealthy, But Does It Matter?

photo via IDSGN.org Today, Inhabitat reported that all of Sunny Delight’s U.S. and Spanish companies have gone zero-waste to landfill. While this could be a positive change for the company, Inhabitat thinks that the corporation’s star product (Sunny D), which contains a lot of high-fructose corn syrup, cancels out the zero-waste achievement. Yes, high-fructose corn syrup is bad for us. But so is sending exorbitant amounts of waste to landfills. And sure, it’d be great to live in a world where Sunny D wasn’t made with HFCS (right?), but that just isn’t happening now. And Inhabitat’s claim that Sunny D’s move to zero-waste is an act of “self-interest” is irrelevant — less waste being shipped to landfills is a good move for the earth and its inhabitants. Jessica Simpson Gets Her Vegan On Thanks To New Veggie Boyfriend

Ahhh! Now it makes sense. We think we finally understand why Jessica Simpson has been down with the vegan stuff lately. Rumor on the street is that Jessica has gone vegan (or is dabbling, at least) thanks to her new boyfriend New Orleans Saints’ tight end Eric Johnson . Times of the Internet is reporting that In Touch magazine broke the story — although we can’t find the original source. Apparently, Jessica’s gone so far as to even hire a chef to teach her how to cook vegan food. “She barely knew where the kitchen was before. But she is motivated now, because she knows it makes Eric happy,” a source said. I don’t know. This whole story sounds a bit far-fetched to us, but we’d love to believe it’s true.
