Timberlake Awed By Accomplishments of ‘Summit On The Summit’ Team

Posted by in Eco, Environment, Green, News on Mar 14th, 2010 | no responses

He brought sexy back with his Grammy award-winning second solo album FutureSex/LoveSounds , scored an Emmy along with Adam Sandberg for the SNL digital parody “ Dick in a Box ” and dabbled in fashion by crafting a collection of men’s and women’s shirts, jeans and jackets under the William Rast label . Justin Timberlake has proven to be quite the enterprising entrepreneur — and has even found time to green up one of his favorite pastimes by launching the chemical free and uber-sustainable Mirimichi Golf Course — so it comes as no surprise that his tight schedule prevented him from joining his fellow Kilimanjaro-climbing compadres in the MTV-documented S ummit On The Summit . “Bummed” that he wasn’t able to hike side by side with his good friend, Grammy nominated musician Kenna Zemedkun (not to mention his long-term actress-girlfriend Jessica Biel ), Timberlake says that the actual idea for Summit on the Summit was born while he and Kenna were enjoying their yearly winter snowboarding getaway. The former ‘N Synch er intended to make the trek to raise awareness and funds to help solve the global clean water crisis alongside Isabel Lucas , Emile Hirsch , Lupe Fiasco and Elizabeth Gore – and was even training to be in top form – but scheduling conflicts, including the filming of an upcoming Facebook-themed movie called “ The Social Network ” – were the reason for his absence. The 90 minute documentary of the harrowing climb that his friends ended up making – airing this Sunday on MTV at 9 PM Eastern Time – still has a distinctive Timberlake vibe due to the introduction that he recorded. Inspired by the whole notion of being committed to such a worthy cause, he says that he is completely “in awe” of everyone who stuck to their guns despite the physical and environmental challenges that they faced. Daily texts kept him abreast of their progress every step of the way, and he recounted how “that extra 3,000 feet was really brutal, because of the altitude.” Ultimately, Timberlake told MTV that “it’s really an inspiring idea and an inspiring task, and I was very proud of everyone who was involved with it. … It says a lot about all the people who were involved in the climb, that they were sort of willing to put themselves out there … to have cameras on them 24/7 and to say, ‘Well, if this has any effect on anyone who’s watching it, or creates any type of awareness, and gets $10 from one person, well, that’s amazing.’ ” Viewers who are moved by the cause are encouraged to donate a modest $10 sum to the UN Foundation – which will provide 1000 liters of clean water to those in need – by texting SEND to 90999.
